2nd Annual Lambda Pi Eta Academic Paper Competition
It's time for the 2nd Annual Lambda Pi Eta Academic Paper Competition.  If you have written a paper or created a project related to communications in calendar year 2008, please consider submitting it for this school-wide academic competition.  We will be accepting past and present work. 

A panel of Park professors will judge all entries, select three top submissions and provide feedback.  The three winners will be recognized at a ceremony in March and at LPE's annual induction ceremony in April.  The top submissions also will receive a monetary award.

If you are interested, please email lambdapieta@ithaca.edu and submit your work as an electronic attachment.  You must include:

1.  Cover page with your name and title of project
2.  100 word abstract
3.  Paper or project, not to exceed 30 pages, including all citations and tables

Entry deadline is January 30, 2009

Academy-Award Nominated Filmmaker Frederick Marx to speak December 4
Thursday night, December 4 at 7:30pm Fred Marx, one of the co-creators behind the award-winning "Hoop Dreams," will be on campus to screen a rough cut of his new film, "17 Paths to Enlightenment," a chronicle of the struggles faced by young Tibetan children who make it their mission to spread awareness of their country's plight.  As a bonus, he will answer any and all questions you may have about the film, the filmmaking process and his amazing and prolific career.  This is an amazing opportunity to speak with an acclaimed, seasonal professional, and to get a glimpse of the filmmaking process in motion.  The event begins at 7:30pm in the Park Auditorium.

Mini Course to be offered titled Radio Sales and Marketing
Susan Johnston, General Manager of the Cayuga Radio Group, will be offering a mini course titled Radio Sales and Marketing April 18, 19, & 20. Students will learn "everything they wanted to know but were afraid to ask" about the business of radio, from understanding the needs of the client to creating a media plan, proposal and creative presentation; students will also learn strategies that help local advertisers "ring their cash registers." The mini course is open to Park juniors, seniors and students working at WICB and VIC. Space is limited.

Long-Time TV-R Professor, Howard Cogan, Passes Away at age 78
Howard Cogan passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.  He taught advertising in the Television-Radio Department for 17 years.  His full obituary can be found at: http://www.legacy.com/theithacajournal/obituaries.asp?page=lifestory&personald=103707771
Howard touched the lives of many students and will be missed by all.
